More Memories From The Trunk…

IMG_0975The picture of the trunk is a special memory in itself because it belonged to my mother.  It’s full of pictures from my childhood…pictures of parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and siblings.  Now there’s some stories to remember!

I read a comment last week from a friend who said that what I wrote reminded her of her mother and the sewing she did.  I knew her mom while growing up and our moms could do everything.  From sewing and cooking to baking and canning…they did it all.  And we learned a lot from them.

I have the most wonderful memories of my mom too.  She was the best mom in the world and a great influence on me.  She enjoyed her family more than anything and both of my parents made each of their five children feel special and an important part of the family.

IMG_0982I know I’ve mentioned before that my mom knitted, but she mended and also later in life tried her hand at quilting.  I have several wall hangings and throws that she made and I cherish them.  I also have a sewing cabinet of hers.  My dad told me that he bought it for her in the first years of their marriage.  It’s one of the storage cabinets that I use in my sewing store and it’s a real treasure to me.

Mom passed away in 2005 and I miss her tremendously.  For quite some time after she passed, I couldn’t look at pictures of her without so much sadness and heartache. But eventually those pictures from the trunk came out and so many good-time memories surfaced.  If there’s anyone I’ve ever wanted to be like, it is my mom.  I wrote a poem about her years ago and I’d like to share that poem.

My Mother

001As I look into a mirror, what I’d really like to see

is a reflection of my mother looking back at me.

To see her eyes so tender that shed tears of joy today

or shared my heartfelt sorrow without words at all to say.

She is perfect as a picture, every single hair in place

A reflection of my mother with her gentleness and grace.

My mom was a very strong thread that kept our family connected through the years.

I love you mom!
